This review encompasses not just the lavender, but a few other Sun Essential Oils… I ordered Joy, lavender, peppermint, frankincense to start…they arrived today much to my delight. This is my first time trying Sun; I make soap as well as my own oil blends, so I’m familiar with essential oils and have used many different brands such as Young Living (which I find horribly overpriced due to their MLM) and Bulk Apothecary. At any rate, I go through oil pretty quickly, so was curious if these puppies would be a good go-to for an inexpensive oil. Sadly my first experience with Sun Essential Oils is off to a rocky beginning… the sealed peppermint oil leaked in the box with roughly 2 teaspoons of oil missing due to the leak. This didn’t upset me too much – these things happen, and I didn’t pay a lot for the large 4 oz bottle. I opened the bottle & am not real thrilled with the scent – it almost has a petroleum-like smell to it, not the pure “shock” of good peppermint oil. Okay, I’ll use this in soap, hope for the best, and use the rest for keeping mice at bay.Next, I opened the Joy. As other reviewers have noted, it is far more weak than the original YL Joy blend. FAR weaker… take heed! Used topically, the scent is barely there and disappears quickly. With potent oils such as ylang-ylang & jasmine, you’d expect it to be quite strong. It definitely doesn’t feel or smell like a pure oil blend… there HAS to be a carrier in there someplace. On a positive note, I poured some into my diffuser and it’s very nice… however, I used way more than the usual 5 or 6 drops.The lavender: does not have that “softness” that a pure lavender should have… it too has almost a petroleum undertone to it. This makes me sad. How can you screw up lavender??!I have yet to try the frank, but my expectations are low at this point.Another thing that bothers me, and apparently many others: the bottles do not have a regulator/dropper. They DO include a pipette, BUT the dang thing is too big for the box so it arrives all bent from being forced into the box rendering it useless (due to breakage where it was folded).My suggestions to the company… If you are using a carrier, say so. I’m in no way an EO expert, and even I can tell these are not 100% pure essential oils. Please provide droppers in your bottles and stop cramming a pipette into a too-small box.I really wanted to like this product but I don’t think I’ll be ordering this brand again. There is a reason for the low price tag… you get what you pay for.—UPDATE: Sun Essentials responded and I upped the rating from 3 to 4 stars. They’re customer service is AMAZING. They offered to replace the peppermint that leaked (I declined), and sent a new Joy & lavender, which arrived very quickly. The replacement lavender is 100% better; I will buy again. However, sadly… the Joy is still less than joyful. The scent is very weak & texture is very greasy. The frankincense? Couldn’t be happier! That one turned out to be my favorite – I use it in face serums & neat, topically, and will purchase again. They also sent two new pipettes, packaged much better to where they were curved, and not crammed in & creased.Thank you, Sun, for your fabulous customer service! After this experience, I will try more of your EOs.

My husband read that hyssop oil is similar to eucalyptus for lung congestion so when I was ordering eucalyptus oil I also ordered this. I read about hyssop oil and besides being good for congestion it was supposed to have a strong but pleasant aroma. This oil had almost no pleasant aroma but also had an smell of old cooking oil also. I copied my review of the eucalyptus oil instead of having to duplicate everything else about this oil. I’d give all these oils a 0 if they’d let me because there is absolutely nothing positive for this oil when compared to other brands of the same essential oil. This is the lowest rating they allowed from me.Ok, so I don’t normally write reviews but this oil really was horrible. My family has been caught up in this whole flu epidemic since before Christmas (9 weeks). My husbands turned into pneumonia. It’s in all of our lungs so with all the mucus we’re having Difficulty breathing. Putting eucalyptus on a wash cloth and placing it over th front of our air purifier seems to be the only thing that has worked to help us breath. We have a prescription nebulizer with prescription medicine but that has not been helping. We also have an oil diffuser but that does not put enough in the air to help. Before this flu I’d been buying different brands of eucalyptus oil in 4 oz bottles to find What I felt was the best brand. The 4oz bottles were only lasting 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. I saw this 16 oz bottle it was not a brand of eucalyptus I’d tried I decided to buy it. Along with it I bought a 4 oz bottle of their hyssop and a 16 oz of their lavender. They all came in plastic bottles which is a big no-no with pure essential oils. This surprised me because I ordered a bottle of garlic oill from them, which I had not tried yet, and it was in a glass bottle. The oil was visually much thicker than any other brand I’ve tried . The aroma was weak and had a faint smell that was not typical of eucalyptus . I went on amazon and ordered 3 other types of eucalyptus and one of hyssop. The problem was that I was out of eucalyptus oil,it was the weekend and it was the only thing working on my husband. He swears that breathing the eucalyptus oil is the only thing keeping him alive. So he decided we should give it a try. In less than 2 days I used more than 8 oz of the bottle. It made the air heavy as if I had fried something recently and there was oil dripping from the cloth that would not diffuse. In the 2 months I’ve been using the eucalyptus never had there been any oil on the cloth by the time it was done. So I did the paper test. Every one of the 4 oils I purchased from this company failed the paper test. Every one of them has the same underlining oil smell and every lacks the intense aroma that essential oils are known for. Thanks to Amazon by Monday we had more, better oil. Never will I ever purchase any oil from this company again. This oil is in the same price range as the other brands but it is the worst oil by far.If you’re wondering how the search for a great brand of eucalyptus is going so far AN ArtNaturals has been my favorite. They also send two small .33 bottles of blended essential oils as a bonus. They are in the same ball park as the other brands. NOW hyssop oil is also very aromatic and pleasant smelling I will be trying their eucalyptus the next time I order.For those of you who don’t know what the paper test is: Place a few drops of oil on a sheet of paper ( do a couple of different brands so you can see the difference). Put it in a safe place and come back to it the next day. Since essential oils really are not oil there should not be an oil spot left on the paper.

This oil smells like Australian sandalwood but the smell is not that strong.
