I am big into Chinese Medicine and I love these. Yes they smell herbal!! ITS MUGWORT!! What do you expect it to smell like?? A pina colada? Anyway they’re also nice for regular back pain too. I have pretty sensitive skin and haven’t experienced any irritation from the adhesive. However if you do not put it on correctly such as not applying the bandage ends smoothly and crinkling them up, this can pinch the skin and cause irritation.

I’m new to mugwort, so I was anxious try it out. You simply peel the paper off of the adhesive ends, spread the oil onto the pad by pouring it out of the tiny bottle, and then stick it into place. The pads stick very well. The oil is a little difficult to spread evenly and I can never get it to cover the entire pad. Moxibustion is a method of heating the oil and placing it against the skin. The pad eventually gets slightly warm after it comes into contact with the oil. I did not experience any skin irritation. Apparently that happens when placed on skin previously treated with skincare ingredients including acids, retinoids, and vitamin C, because mugwort extract can make these ingredients more potent.I’ve been using them to alleviate joint pain in my foot. I, personally, have not noticed any huge difference after using them. But maybe it takes repeated uses. The scent is compelling and difficult to describe. It is herbal and earthy, with cedar, sage, and rosemary notes. I suspect mugwort may have many aromatic uses, given it’s strong scent. If you’re specifically looking for a topical application though, this is a convenient method. Just don’t expect miracle levels of pain relief.

I’ve tried a lot of heat patches, but these Mugwort Essential Oil Heating Pain Patches really stand out. They’re so big—much larger than most others I’ve used—which makes them perfect for covering wider areas like my lower back or abdomen during cramps. The heat lasts a long time and feels soothing without being too intense.They oil comes separately, which is great, cuz you can divide it and use the rest for another area!I also love that they use natural ingredients like mugwort instead of harsh chemicals. They’ve been great for menstrual pain, but I’ve also used them for occasional knee and joint aches with great results. Definitely a great natural alternative to products with lidocaine or menthol.
