    Brilliant idea—imperfect design
First the concept (WHAT is this anyway), then the application (why THIS bottle).Fruit infusion seems to be the craze. Add fruit to your water, let it sit overnight, and drink. Here’s the problem with that: The water leeches the taste from the fruit, so you end up with water with a *hint* of flavor, and fruit that tastes bland. If you can get past that inherent problem, fruit-infused water is for you—if you can get past the next problem. To make a *good* fruit-infusion, you really need to have fresh fruits (frequent trips to the store) so that you can blend lemons and oranges and blueberries, strawberries, watermelons (whatever your favorite recipe calls for—there are several websites online that have “the best” recipes). This means that to make a small jug of water you will need to cut up several fruits and save the leftovers for future bottles of infused water. Unless you are a zealot (or are making several bottles at once) this can be a problem.Okay, so now THIS BOTTLE:Well, it is well made (5 stars there), and it is attractive (another 5 stars). It is easy to use (5 stars . . .). The problem is in the design itself. It comes with no recipes or instructions, so you need to figure out how this thing works. It has a “juicer” at the bottom, so that seems like it would be self-evident and obvious, but even using a small “Valencia” (thinner skin, not Navel) orange, you have to cram the halved orange into the bottom and then shove the “juicer” down. The orange gets trapped in the bottom, creating an air pocket, and not getting very “juiced.” Due to the fact that the “juicer” (the purple part) points down, into the “juice cup,” you can’t juice the orange properly. You would have to do this over a separate bowl and then pour the juice into the juice cup, or the top half of the bottle.Next, any other fruit you added would have to go into the top half of the bottle, but with the wide mouth, that fruit would slam into your face when you take a drink. This whole design fiasco drags this 5 star rating down to a solid 4 stars. If you are willing to do the extra work of pre-juicing your fruits and then adding them to the fruit cup, then this is for you. But after a handful of times it will get tedious. My solution: Buy small fruits. Any orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit larger than a plum, or a lemon is too big to fit properly into the juice cup. Also, add any of the following to the BOTTOM of the jar (the fruit cup part below the purple “juicer”) first, and if possible, pre squeeze them: watermelon, soft pear slices, peach slices, orange slices, blue berries, raspberries, strawberries, and possibly mint. If you can cram them into the small space the “juicer” will trap them at the bottom and you can shake the bottle (when filled with purified or distilled water) to blend. It does look cool, but it is a lot fo work for the small amount of “kinda-fruity water” you get as a result. I really wanted to like this more. It’s not “bad.” It’s just not as cool or as fun as it looks. Hope this helps.

    Ruined after a few weeks
The water bottle has already started to get ruined after using it for only 2-3 weeks. The fruit compartment is stained and the plastic is breaking apart.

    Good design
We’ve owned several of these types of bottles, pitchers, etc, and they all work basically the same way. Put the fruit in the little fruit compartment, put water in the water compartment, give it a good shake and let it sit overnight. Grab and go the next morning. This one works the same way, and given the way the bottle is set up, I was a little worried about leaking, but we haven’t had a problem with that at all. So far, the bottle has held up well. It comes apart easily for cleaning and it isn’t hard to clean. The bottle has a wide mouth, so ice cubes slide right in. One recommendation I have is to leave a little room in both sections for easy shaking, this also allows for room for the water to grab the fruit flavors. It is, after all, an infuser, and it needs some air for that to work. The only drawback is how much fruit you need. This takes very little, so if you want fresh fruit, you’re going to have to make frequent trips to the grocery or farmer’s market. There is also quite a bit of fruit left over, which isn’t a problem for us. My crew will snatch up any leftovers right then, but if you live alone, and don’t want the leftover fruit right then, you’ll need to eat it soon, or it goes to waste. As far as this bottle, it does work well, and it’s gotten a lot of use in this house. I’d say it’s a pretty good value for the money.

12 hour minimum for fruit taste
This item fits a lot more water than I expected. It seems small and slim, but once you get the water in, it fills the entire bottle. I tried kiwis and strawberries in bottle. I cut up two strawberries and half a kiwi and shook it up. Immediately, you cannot taste the flavor. It took about 6-8 hours for me taste the fruit. I would say that 12 hours or overnight may be better for flavor. I don’t like the frosted/ ashy feel it has to it. I also had a problem with when I assembled all the parts after putting the fruit and water in, that the water began seeping out the cracks. I had to really tighten it for it to stop.

Ingenious design; four pieces turns into one leakproof bottle
This is an ingeniously designed infuser bottle that disassembles into four pieces (lid, main bottle cylinder, reamer, bottle base). I used this to hold some limes by using the reamer to extract the juice into the base and then letting the lime halves stay on the bottom. I then screwed the reamer into the base, then screwed the bottle cylinder on top and filled with water before putting on the cap and shaking. The cap has a cloth strap for carrying. The bottle is made of BPA-free plastic and is not dishwasher safe. When fruit is placed on the bottom, there is no way to get 22 ounces of liquid in this container. Nevertheless, I love the design, the color, and the ease of cleaning. The only thing I dislike is that I have to unscrew the cap to take a drink. I would have preferred a clip top that I can just pull up and drink from. I also wish the carry strap was made of silicone because the ribbon takes time to dry. Also, note that one has to be careful not to hold the bottom section as leverage when unscrewing the cap on top. Hold the top section only because this will avoid the bottom section from being unscrewed with the top and causing a leak. Other than this, this is a nicely designed water bottle.

    Neat idea, but application…
This is neat idea to infuse water in a bottle. The seals on both the top and the bottom were very tight. The application for me didn’t work that well with harder items like citrus fruit. This is why I can only give this three stars. Using it for melons and berries it was fine, not great but okay. As the amount you can add is very limited. You can’t infuse a lot so again three stars. I really like the idea and Gaiam products are usually a hit with me but this was a miss.
