If you need continuous noise to sleep, get this now
This is exactly what I needed. No bells, no whistles; just blissfully continuous noise. This little device is amazingly simplistic — two knobs and one button.Plug it in and it’s ready to go. One knob for volume (the loudest setting would drown out a thunderstorm), one knob to control the pitch (everything from pink noise to white, brown, green etc) and a click button to power it on. No skipping, no looping, no programming, no stopping at the end of a track. Just continuous, unbroken sound.Plus it’s pretty small and light weight, very easy to travel with. The only drawback is the power cord is attached to the device (not an interchangable adapter) yet there is no “plug”, just a standard USB on the end. It’s an odd choice for sure. But whatever. This device is a godsend if you’re like me and can only get restful sleep if you have green noise in the background.

    Absolutely a good buy.
High quality, I use it at work where I work in a cubicle farm of 25 people. This definitely help and I really appreciate the non-looping sound. It is infinitely adjustable and very easy to use. I even bought one for my coworker, she says she noticed a difference in her ability to focus on the first day using it.

    Smart Plug Compatible
I live next to a loud busy street that can be heard from every room in my house at all times day and night. Somehow this doesn’t bother my wife or kids, but I hate it. I noticed that the dishwasher would drown out almost all of the road noise, which was great for the kitchen when the dishwasher was running, but I needed an on-demand solution for every room. My first purchase was a rechargeable sound machine, which worked great, but it wasn’t as convenient as I wanted. Sure, I could carry it around with me, but what a pain. Plus, that would only work while there was battery life. What I really desired was a sound machine in every room that I could control from my phone. Something that I don’t think exists at the moment, or maybe it does and it’s way too expensive. Anyway, I ended up buying a LectoFan and it’s great. It plugs into the wall, I can shut it off (or unplug) and it resumes the sound and volume. The only problem is that it still requires a manual touch to turn on and off. Yes, I know it sounds lazy, but the places I need to place these sound machines are not very convenient. The goal is to have them hidden. Anyway, I had a couple Kasa smart plugs laying around that I used to set timers for the Christmas tree lights last year. I started thinking about if the plug would work with the sound machines I have. I first tried the one with the battery and that worked to turn on, but because the internal battery would charge while it was running, the sound machine would keep running after the smart plug was turned off, so it still required a manual touch. I next tried it on the LectoFan and it worked perfectly. Most sound machines will not resume the sound and volume after power is lost, but the LectoFan does. It’s the only one with non-mechanical buttons that I know of that will do this. The only problem is that I needed five more and they’re $50 each. I was having a hard time convincing my wife of the cost, so I needed to find a cheaper solution. I searched high and low for days and finally ran across this very basic device (Lectro Sound 2), which has a mechanical power button and dials for sound and volume. There is only the fan sound on this device, so keep looking if you need anything else. It does adjust from low to high fan noise and everything in between, and since I only use the fan noise on my LectoFan, this was perfect for my needs. I ended up buying one of these and a smart plug for every room. I set the power switch to on and my desired sound and volume for each environment and set them all up on the smart plug app. I can now turn them on and off as I choose from anywhere or set timers based on my habits. For $15 each for this device and $5 for each smart plug, that’s well worth the cost. Honestly, I would have ended up buying the LectoFan if this wasn’t an option, so I’m thrilled to have found this device.Update 3/20/25: I just wanted to take a minute to update this review with a bit of new information related to my original comments. I have found a sound machine that can be controlled by an app without the need for a smart plug. It is called the ‘Easysleep Sound Machine’ and currently sells for $29.99 (also a $5 off coupon at the moment). I have purchased this and it has now replace one of my LectroSound machines. An important feature to note is that it does remember the previous settings when power is lost. You can control the different sounds, volume, and colorful lights (if desired) from the app. The only negative is that the fan sound doesn’t go quite as low as the LectroSound, but it works well enough to drown out the road noise. I’m not trying to take customers away from the LectroSound, it’s a great device, but now the price is $21.95 (I paid $14.95) and to match the features of the Easysleep device, it requires the smart plug. At pretty much the same price point, I can now compare apples to apples and the Easysleep would be my choice at this point. Having said that, I can’t speak for longevity of the Easysleep device yet since I’ve only had it for a week. The LectroSound devices have been used in conjunction with the smart plugs daily for over a year now with no hiccups. Take that for what it’s worth. Hope this helps someone.

    good
I love the size and the fact that you can adjust the volume and pitch. It is exclusively electric and I wish that it had an option for rechargeable battery use. It emits a nice sound but after a few days I think my brain caught onto the loop and now I hear a weird sound with it. I cover that up by mixing it with green noise app on my phone. I’m pretty sensitive so it may not bother most other people.

    Great little machines
I live in an old 3 story senior apartment building that used to have carpets in every unit. When a resident left, the next resident would get a new carpet. A few years ago, the building’s property management company decided to have vinyl flooring installed in vacated units instead of carpet. I moved in two years ago, and I have a vinyl floor that I’m happy with – I didn’t want carpet because I have allergies. But I’m not happy with the noise from the upstairs neighbor, a single woman who moved in 6 months after I did. She wears army boots when she clomps around her uncarpeted apartment trying to find me. Then she clomps around right over my head making any noise she can. (There’s a whole ‘nother story about that. Next review.)One of the things I’m doing is using white noise to mask my noise as well as distract me from the upstairs noise. I tried playing recorded white noise on bluetooth speakers, and I was happy with the results. But I wasn’t happy about stopping it at night when I turned my computer off. I already had a ‘Lectro Fan that I’ve used in the bedroom for nine years, so I bought another one to put in the bathroom. And I liked what they did for me. I was going to get a few more when I saw this unit on Amazon. I got one, tried it, then I got three more. I like being able to adjust the volume and the frequency on these units. And they are so lightweight, that I stuck most of them to the wall using Command velcro type picture hangers. It’s a little inconvenient to supply your own USB power to the unit, but since I had several USB chargers that I wasn’t using, it was a no-brainer.

    Works great!
We had several mechanical white noise machines, which are sort of the gold standard. This is indistinguishable to us, and offers several advantages:- no moving parts, so no vibrations can develop over time. We used to have to put our mechanical ones on a pad on the floor- wider range of volume and sounds. I especially like the ability to turn the volume down to a lower level than was possible with our old unit, which had only two speed settings- lower energy consumption. Just runs off a USB cord. All in all, very pleased. Excellent device and a great substitute for mechanical white noise machines at a significantly lower price.

While the sound machine may not offer a variety of sound options, the white noise is great for supporting sleep and blocking out disruptive noises. I never travel without it.

  8. Alan S.

Noise quality and volume level just as good as my previously owned SOUND + SLEEP device…and six times cheaper.
